I have not been getting notification emails about comments for a while. Today, while upgrading to latest version of Wordpress, I noticed why. I did not setup an email forwarded for the alias that I was using as the target of the email notifications that are sent to me. I used to my site set to forward all unknown emails to my account. While it was fun to create anyemailaddressthaticouldthinkof@scottandlaurie.com, it quickly became annoying as I was inundated with piles of spam. I thought that I had created forwards for all of the alias that I was actually using, but I guess I missed one.
So the next time that someone sends me a comment, I might actually notice it before four weeks have gone by. Of course if most of my posts were not routed through my twitter account, and I logged into my blog’s web interface once and a while, I might actually notice comments that way, too. Hmmm…. I shall give this dilemma much thought.
Oh, and what the hell did the wordpress upgrade do to all of my categories? They all still exist by they are blank. I am glad I downloaded a backup of the database before I upgraded. Fixing this is going to be a lot of fun.
Okay. I am not sure what is up. I just tried to view the Wikipedia entry on the XML Scheme language, XSD, and I was presented with this farce. I have not done any research yet.
Okay in the time that it took me to capture this picture, upload it to flickr, and upgrade my installation of wordpress so that I could generate this blog post (10-15 minutes), the page has been reverted. (Why did I not think about reverting it?)
There is a small blurb on the discussion page about vandalism, but no one has responded.
If anyone has any ideas about what has caused this, I would be interested to hear.
Wall E is awesome!
Today’s record gas prices must of have had an effect on people over the holiday weekend. There are 4 passengers on the Smart Way Bus that are standing in the aisle after it picked up passengers at the Salem, VA park and ride. That is a significant increase of the max ridership for the schedule last week.
Trivial pursuit leads to funny situations. Like when the phrase Arab leader gets confused with Arab bleeder, and leads to the question ” …
Some girl called me looking for a guy named Max. She would not beleive that she had the wrong number. I think I just broke them up.
Asp.Net ViewState is annoying
@kg4peq Thanks for the welcome home.
Friday morning waffles are awesome and delicious
My new job rocks!
I am writing this post from my seat on the Smart Way Bus. It has a wifi Internet connection. This is almost too awesome!
Update: I forgot to mention that the speed is actually really decent. About as good, if not better, than the EV-DO connection that I used to have on my Sprint Windows Mobile phone.
I overheard this at a birthday party today. “Hey Mommy! Come listen to the depressing song I wrote.”
Here is a tip for everyone using Apple’s Time Machine backup software and the BOINC client for Mac. Add /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data to the Time Machine exclusion list. This will prevent Time Machine from displaying really annoying popup windows that claim a file could not be copied.
Tonight marks my last night staying in my corporate apartment in Roslyn, VA. I have really enjoyed my time in the DC Metro area. It has been a long and rewarding two years. I came to the DC area in a desperate search for employment. I now leave the DC area as a better and wiser software developer. I have accepted a position with Mailtrust, thus ending my time as an Avanade employee. This also marks my first position outside of the federal space in two years. I am looking forward to the change and the challenges and rewards that it will bring. I start at Mailtrust on Monday, June 23, 2008.
Mailtrust is located in Blacksburg, VA, just a short walk across the street from Virginia Tech’s campus. It will be really nice to work in the Blacksburg area again. It was there that I was working before I joined Avanade. I have only been to Blacksburg three times, since then. Two of those visits were for job interviews.
I am a little concerned about the commute, but it is by no way a big issue. My main concern is with gas prices. I have tossed around different ideas for decreasing my gas consumption including buying a motorcycle or a more fuel efficient car. My solution has been to just not drive the distance at all. Despite previous complaints about the Smart Way Bus, while I was working at VTLS, I have decided to give it another try. Having ridden the DC Metro for an hour each direction, after spending 45 minutes in a car to get there, as part of my morning commute, a 90 minute bus ride does not seem bad at all. I plan on spending my time on the bus working on personal projects.
It is going to be nice to be able to sleep in my own bed every night, but I am really going to miss this place. I will cross the threshold of my apartment door in the morning for the last time. And that is going to be really hard. Wish me luck.
If you have not seen The Happening yet, but are planning to. Don’t!
I am playing Carcasonne with Laurie, Patrick and Jennifer right now. This is the second round that we have played tonight, but I have a feeling that it is going to be the most interesting one for the night. About two months ago I bought all of the Carcasonne expansion packs that the Game Parlor in Chatilly, VA had for sale. Well we opened them tonight and discovered that they are all compatible with each other. So we are playing with about nine different expansion packs. Each expansion pack adds on to the rules of the orgiinal game. This has resulted in a massive pile of rules that we have just had to learn. My head hurts from the exercise. At the very least it should contribute to a very interesting evening.
Oh, since they was a discussion about whether or not blogging during while playing a board game is rude, it was agreed to be okay as long as I mention that Jennifer says “Hi”. So yeah, Jennifer says “Hi”.
Update: okay sometime within the last hour we descended into couple Carcasonne, and it looks like Laurie and I are going to lose.
Update 2: It is about 3:20am, and we have been playing this game for about four and a half hours.
Update 3: We just finished at about 4:15. Laurie won! She is the official Carcasonne champion!
The Springfield mall Target cafe is a huge senior breakfast hangout. Who knew?
